Millionaire Guide

So, you want to get into the hot seat, eh? Or just want to impress your friends and family by making it into the Top 10? Look no further than this guide!

Selection of Show

Believe it or not, when you go in the day factors into your chances of making it into the hot seat. The first show is always the emptiest(usually around 10:30 am). The reason for this is everyone else is out riding Tower of Terror or Rock 'n' Rollercoaster or any other of the thrill rides. Due to WTBAM's remote location, it doesn't get initial pass by so crowd levels for this show will be low.

If you're like me and can't pass up riding Rock 'n' Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror 10 times before 10am, then try to make the last showing. Hopefully by the last show many people will have started to go home. You might also consider a show during a parade time. Otherwise, arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime(assuming you're not using a FASTPASS).

Understanding how the game works

Before you can learn some strategies, it's best to learn how the game itself works so that you go in without questions.

Between the rules and the pre-show, actual playtime lasts anywhere from twenty to twenty-five minutes. This limits the number of people who usually make it to the hot seat is usually to two or three. Keep in mind there's roughly 650 other people in the arena with you.

In order to score points, a guest much select the correct answer to a given question using a keypad in front of you. The keypad has 4 options: A, B, C & D. You cannot key in an answer until all the questions have been displayed. To get more points, answer the question correctly AND quickly! How quick? As in you need to know the answer before the last question, but we'll get to that in the strategy phase. And don't forget about bonus points! Bonus points are say on the 100 point question, if you answer it correctly you get 100 points. If you get it right as soon as the lights come up, then you get 600 points! Understand that with every new player, all scores are wiped clean. So if you bombed the stupid $200 question about Thumper's girlfriend(the answer is Bixbi), don't worry. Once a new player comes up, everyone is back at zero. That's

not to say that if you miss one, you're out for that session. Things change rapidly! It's not unusual to be in the Top 10 at the 1000 point plateau and then off the map at the 32,000 plateau.

Differences from the TV show to the theme park

There are a few differences from the TV show to the theme park show.

  • As was mentioned before, the audience plays along with every question in order to determine subsequent contestants for the hot seat.
  • There are no cash prizes. See below for available prizes.
  • Everyone in the audience is eligible to be in the hot seat(excluding Cast Members and those who have been in the hot seat recently).
  • Regis Philbin nor Meredith Viera hosts the show(s). They are hosted by a group of 6 hosts.
  • The 50/50 & Ask the Audience lifelines are the same, but Phone-A-Friend has been replaced with Phone-A-Complete-Stranger. Meaning, they grab some tourist from the park and have them help you.
  • The seating capacity for Play It! is just over 3 times that of the real show. The seating on the New York set has a capacity of around 195.
  • On the show, the audience members are all 18 and over. Since Play It!'s audience will contain a significant number of children, that can alter the Ask the Audience percentages.
  • There are time limits that contestant must face on each question (15 secs. each for questions through 1,000 point, 30 secs. each for questions through 32,000 points, 45 secs. each for questions through 500,000 points, and a full minute on the million point question).

What kind of questions are asked?

From the $100 - $1000 questions, they are fairly simple, general trivia questions. Many have to do with Disney films, so it wont hurt to be familiar with them. After the $1000 question, the questions start to become harder and more specific. You wont find any "joke answers" (the joke answer is usually the last answer that is obviously wrong, and put in to make the audience laugh)here. And sorry, questions are not repeated from show to show to so there's no repitition.

Opening question

If there is no contestant returning to complete an unfinished round, a fastest finger question is used to decide the first hot seat player. This involves putting four items in a certain order, most often size, chronology, or location. An example is: "Put this Tom Clancy novel title in the correct order"
A: Danger
B: And
C: Clear
D: Present

The person who keyed in C, B, D, A the fastest would be selected for the hotseat. If there is a contestant from the previous show, then this question is ommitted.

How can I sit in those chairs on the floor?

Unlike the show, those seats are not reserved for possible contestants. All you have to do to sit in them is get a FastPass for the attraction and then show up 25-30 minutes before your FastPass time. To put it simply, be the first FastPass person there. The Cast Member letting people in outside will let you in early, and you (and the next four FastPass holders) will be handed small cards that let you sit on the floor.

Strategies from the Audience

Okay, enough babble, onto how to win! First, let me say that the best strategy is to play this game as many times as you can. The more you play, the better your own personal strategy will get. Everyone handles this game in their own way and you probably wont know what works for you until you actually play.

As the questions are displayed, you must have an answer by C. How? If neither A, B nor C is correct, then assume D is correct. Once you have an answer, keep hitting the correct answer until the lights light up. Holding the button down does not work! Pressing the buttons like your life depends on it seems to be the best strategy as it minimizes the time between the answers being lit up and you hitting it.

Don't forget about the bonus points. If you nail the question right as it lights up, you get bonus points.

It is better to answer the question correctly and take a few seconds than answering it wrong in any period of time. Don't panic, close your eyes and smack the pad hoping for the right answer. Think it through, as you'll have a better chance of getting in the hot seat with correct answers than wrong ones.

Strategies from the Hot Seat

So you've made it in and now you can't realize you can't remember your phone number, let alone the year the civil war ended(1865)! Don't worry and try to remember these tips.

I'm sure you've heard this a thousand times, but try your best to relax. Crack stupid jokes, tell stories, wave to friends, whatever gets you focused.

Remember that questions 0 - 1000 are usually easy questions, sometimes based on Disney Films. Don't over think them, but don't carelessly answer.

Speak answers outloud! It works! Go along the lines of "Well, I know it isn't C. D is way off. So it's been A nd B. I'm pretty sure A is too low, so my final answer is B". By speaking things out, you're also more likely to catch yourself saying something stupid and therefore, avoid stupid answers. Nothing is worse than going the rest of your vacation and being ridiculed for missing out on an easy question like Which Disney film is set in Hawaii(Lilo & Stitch).

Try not to waste lifelines on easy questions. If possible, hold out to use them until at least the 16,000 question. Speaking of lifelines, your phone-a-stranger lifeline would be best used on easier questions as it's more likely that your mind is drawing a blank on a simple question from the pressure. Don't waste the other 2 lifelines on anything low.

Always look over each answer given. Many times there is what seems to be an obvious answer but think through it. If the answer seems way too simple on say $125,000 then dismiss it and look for another.
