Why it's there: Peevy's Polar Pipeline

If you spend enough time in the areas around Hollywood Boulevard and Echo Lake, you'll notice a lot of references to Disney productions that came out around the time the Studios opened in 1989. One of these is often overlooked by guests since it's somewhat hidden, but you may have noticed tucked away in the corners of of Peevy's Polar Pipeline some movie props and references to the film, "The Rocketeer".

On the left of the beverage dispensers, you will see a helmet and jetpack from the film, "The Rocketeer". These replicas are the most straight forward reference to the film. The name of the counter service is named after one of the characters in the film, A. 'Peevy' Peabody, who is the faithful accomplice to the film's main character and the brains behind the operation. In the film, Peevy is a mix between a mechanic and an amateur scientist and throughout the counter service location, you will find references to the film as if the stand doubles as Peevy's office.

The best reference to the film besides the actual jetpack is a hand drawn schematic from the film that Peevy makes to try to explain the physics behind the jetpack. There's a lot of math formulas and observations on the schematic and an interesting look at the jetpack for those who always wished they could don their own. Next to the schematic, you have another prop from the film, a newspaper with a headline and photo about the Rocketeer. The other story making the front page is news that Alaska has been voted by the Senate to become the 49th state of the United States.

The final prop is a banner for "Bigelow's Air Circus" which is slated to occur on October 15, 1938. This is the same date of the newspaper which tells the story of the Rocketeer's first flight. So the banner represents the air show where the film's main character put on the Rocketeer outfit to save a pilot in clown makeup from certain death.
