A weekly peek at Walt Disney World

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

According to an article from the Orlando Sentinel, Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends, a live stage show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will hold its last performance on September 27, 2008.  Most likely due to declining attendance in past years, the cast members assigned to the show have been reassigned and Pocahontas, while no longer host, will still be seen in and around Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

This latest announcement, coupled with the news of the closure of Pleasure Island’s nightclubs, seem to be an ongoing trend for Disney as of late.  With so many changes to Walt Disney World, such as the opening of Toy Story Midway Mania, the planned opening of the American Idol experience later this year, and the redesign of Spaceship Earth to name a few, I thought this would be a perfect time for another What in the World? contest.

This time, I’m asking you to put on your Imagineering hats, and plan the next big thing for Walt Disney World.  What would you like to see at Walt Disney World?  Would you completely redesign an attraction?  Would you open a fifth gate?  Would you bring back an old favorite long gone?  No idea is too big or too small here.

To enter, please send me a short description of your Imagineering idea, no less than 100 but no more than 300 words, describing your Imagineering marvel.  Emails can be sent (either within the text of the email or in a Word document) to glenn@studioscentral.com and must be received by 12:00 pm E.D.T. on Sunday, July 27th.  I will of course, read all of the entries, and share them in the July 29th What in the World? article.  The winner will be randomly selected from the entries I receive.

The winner will receive a Studioscentral.com t-shirt, and an Imagineering mystery prize.  So get to work, have fun, and as Walt Disney once said, “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.”
