Every week I’ll be answering any question about the Disney-MGM Studios from planning questions to “what happened to...” questions.  So if you’ve got something you’ve been wondering about or simply need clarification, please feel free to email them to me (use the form below).

Hi Matt,

Just curious, what rides have broken down when you were on them and then you had to walk out. Maybe I'm just lucky (unlucky?) but I have had to walk out of Test Track, Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth
. - Dan
That really hasn't happened to me much. In fact, it only happened once when I was riding Space Mountain in 2000 and the lights came on mid-ride and the vehicle stopped and we were taken off the attraction and allowed to re-ride (someone threw up on the ride and they had to clean up and restart it. Aside from that, I haven't been evacuated from any attractions in the Studios. Although I'm not sure it's unlucky to have had those breakdowns Dan because it is interesting to see some dark ride attractions with the lights on and it's a different vantage point.

Hi There,
When we went to Disney in March 2006, we had all of our days planned with dining reservations booked etc. We went to MGM Studios on Sunday, March 12, 2006 only to find out that the Indiana Jones Attraction (my son's FAVOURITE) was closed for the day for the National Cheerleading Championship Competition.  We could not change our plans as everything was already booked and though we spent the day, we left disappointed.  I have tried on various websites to get an answer as to whether there will be the same event this year and have not had much luck.  Other than calling down to MGM directly, do you have any other suggestions???  I have to start booking dining reservations soon and will not be able to change some of the dining once booked (Cinderella's Royal Table) so I am starting to panic.  If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

The bane of many who come to the Studios in late winter are the cheerleading competitions that frequent the Studios. To be fair, most cheerleaders are well behaved but there are some that probably had a little too much sugar. There are also dance team competitions that come to the Studios and the "season" for these teams to come to the Studios is January through February. Luckily, there are just a few days where they close down an attraction like Indy.

I did some research and there appears to be already a number of competitions planned for 2008.

  • The College Cheerleading National Championship will be held January 18-20, 2008
  • The College Dance Team National Championship will be held January 18-20, 2008
  • The National Dance Team Championship will be held February 1-3, 2008
  • The National High School Cheerleading Championship will be held February 8-10, 2008

What's your favorite ride? - Shelby
My favorite attraction used to be Rock 'n Roller Coaster as it was the attraction I really loved to ride when I became a huge fan of the Studios. Since then two attractions have caught my heart, first the now departed Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play It! which I loved to play at. Since it closed, the Tower of Terror has really caught my imagination because of how intricately detailed it is. So for a Disney geek like me, it really appeals to me and I enjoy it immensely. I still enjoy Coaster but it's more of an old flame now. I wrote an article about this topic last year that I think will give you an idea of how I decided on what my favorite ride is.
